Family Oriented Programs
Playgroup typically includes playtime, a craft, a snack and circle time where we do games, songs and stories. Caregivers, parents, toddlers and infants are all welcome.
What is a parent & tot playgroup?
- A social time for adults, infants and preschoolers
- Crafts, snack, games, songs and stories
- An opportunity for parents and their children to enjoy time together
- A time for children to develop and practice skills including sharing, taking turns, listening and 'cognitive' skills
- We extend a warm welcome to children with special needs and from other cultures

Storm Policy
Maggie's Place programs will be cancelled on days that Colchester County schools are closed. Our cancellation notice will be on the radio. If in doubt, give us a call.
(In partnership with Colchester-East Hants Public Library) Learn rhymes, songs, and have fun with your baby. One hour per week for 10 weeks. Offered in October to December, January to March and April to June sessions.
A 9 week Parent-Child Interaction Program that gives parents the skills they need to play a major role in the child's development. YMTD enriches parent-child interaction to promote children's social, language and early literacy skills.
The program is for parents with children ages 6 months to 4 years and children must accompany their parents to this program.
A 6-week program for parents/caregivers and children over 2 years. Expand your and your child’s healthy eating experiences through books, rhymes, songs and preparation of healthy snacks together.
Based on the Bookmates’ award- winning ‘Alphabet Soup’ program, with the added twist of physical activity. The program is for parents and children (age 2+) and includes active play, reading, rhymes, songs and healthy snacks.
Parent Education & Support Programs
A 7 week communication program for parents with children 3 - 8 years old.
A 10 week parent education program for parents with children 6 & under.
Throughout the year we offer a variety of parenting workshops and opportunities to meet new people and share experiences.
A 5 week program for parents/caregivers of children ages one to five years. During the early years, children learn to speak, listen and make sense of the world. Parents will learn how children develop language skills and how they can help to encourage them.
This 7 week program focuses on healthy living strategies for parents and children. Participate in fun and creative ways to promote health and wellbeing for you and your children ages one through school age
Nobody's Perfect is for parents of children from birth to age 5 and helps develop the knowledge, skills and self-confidence that are essential to child-raising. The program encourages the development of support networks among parents, families and friends. Sessions are two hours in length offered over 10 weeks. A variety of easy-to-read resource materials are provided to parents at no cost.
A dynamic 8-hour course that will teach you how to make your home a safer place, and help you handle childhood emergencies with confidence. The course includes group discussion, demonstrations, role plays, short lectures and hands-on practice. You will also receive the manual "Childcare Emergency First Aid.
"Maggie's Place is an authorized provider of Canadian Red Cross First Aid Programs.
A 10 week program where parents can try new recipes and learn about cooking skills, nutritional information, preparing low-cost meals and making wise choices at the grocery store. Best of all, parents get to sample the meals and bring some home for their family!
Participants meet once a month to plan recipes together, make up grocery lists and go shopping. Then they collectively prepare the meals and take them home to their families. It's a place to make new friends, engage in conversation and learn new skills. The only requirement to join is an interest in food!

Child & Youth Focused Programs
Maggie’s Place Executive Director, Linda Legere, is facilitating the “Roots of Empathy” program with students at Harmony Heights Elementary School. Over the school year the students will be observing a baby’s development, celebrating his/her milestones, interacting with and learning about his needs and unique temperament.
For age 12 & up.
The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Course teaches youth how to handle emergencies with confidence by providing basic first aid skills, and tips on how to cope with common problems. ~No Cost ~
Children are invited to take part in a 2-day cooking and nutrition class offered in July and August. Drop off your child day one, attend and have fun with your child on day two.
Prenatal / Postnatal Programs
A 10 week program for families eligible for extra support. Prepare nutritious low-cost meals and interact through activities while exploring ways to take good care of yourself and your baby before and after birth. Free food and vitamin supplements with an opportunity to receive a free car seat.
Join a registered massage therapist for a four session program and learn ways to soothe and further bind with your infant through massage and touch. For ages 2-9 months

The United Way of Colchester at 574 Prince Street will be taking over the Back to School Campaign this year.
The Back to School Coalition helps with planning for the upcoming school year. With the help of sponsors and local community, they are able to provide grade appropriate starter kits for children and youth in need, starting school in the fall.
